Banned Books Giveaway

This giveaway has ended.  The winner will be notified on Monday, October 3rd via e-mail.

Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment.  Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States (Source: American Library Association).

In honor of Banned Books Week, I am giving away a new paperback copy of Betrayed by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast.  The Newsletter on Intellectual Freedom reports that Betrayed was challenged this year in the North Star Borough School District in Fairbanks, Alaska high school libraries because “it simply causes kids to think even more of things sexual.”

Now for the giveaway!  There are two ways to enter, first you can leave a comment on this post letting me know the name and author of your favorite banned book.  The second way to enter is by subscribing to this blog.  My current subscribers are already entered!

I will use to choose one winner and will contact them by email.  It is important that you leave your email address if you leave a comment.  Note: There are a maximum of two entries per person.  The giveaway ends on Saturday, October 1st and the winners will be contacted by email on Monday, October 3rd.  This contest is open to U.S. addresses only.

Good luck!

  1. As an avid book lover and reader myself I’m so happy to see so many posts encouraging readers to pick up ‘banned books!’ I have many favorites and it’s nearly impossible to pick but I’ll list a few:

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Anne Rice
    Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck
    Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov
    Animal Farm, George Orwell

  2. My favorite banned book series is Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series. I love the action-packed story and Richelle’s writing style.

  3. My fav book is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I haven’t read it in a while maybe I’ll dig out my old dusty copy and read it again!

  4. My very favorite banned book is “Of mice and men.” I just love this book and read it every couple of years. Each time I read it I wonder what draws me back to it knowing that I am going to cry at the end.
