Beauregard the Library Cat

BearegardBeauregard the Library Cat is the newest member of the H. B. Stamps Library Staff.  The H. B. Stamps Library is located in Hawkins County, TN.

The Hawkins County Library Website reports that Beauregard has been very helpful in making sure the chairs are being used.  He likes to be around people and does not mind occasional petting.  The librarians only ask that you not pick him up (mostly for his safety).

Let’s hope that other libraries follow this example and adopt a homeless cat!

Bill, Thomas Memorial Library’s Cat (An Update)

On June 30, 2009 I wrote about Bill, Thomas Memorial Library’s cat.  Within the last two days, animal control came to pick up Bill from the library!

The regular librarians were not there and it seems a substitute librarian, who does not like cats, complained to the library director at the main library branch about Bill.  The library director sent animal control to pick him up!

The library patrons are very upset as most of you can imagine.  He was the community’s pet and many people, as I previously reported, fed and cared for Bill.

I, as an animal lover, thought Bill was a great addition to the library.  He made the library more special.  You didn’t go to just use the computer or check out books.  You went to visit Bill and say “Hello!” to the librarians.  How sad that our libraries have to be such sterile places.

P.S.  Bill is safe!  The animal control person didn’t get him!  Hip, hip, hooray!  He no longer resides at Thomas Memorial Library, but has a safe and happy home.

Bill, Thomas Memorial Library’s Cat

If you are ever in Bluff City, Tennessee and love cats, then you should definitely stop by Thomas Memorial Library.  There you will find good books and BillBill was a stray cat that has been adopted by the community around Thomas Memorial Library.  He has a bed behind the book drop and food and water dishes at the entrance.  If he is not outside the library, just take a look inside!  He has a bed behind the librarian’s desk inside as well.  He is a sweet cat!  I will try to post a picture soon.

Please say “Hello!” to the librarians at Thomas Memorial Library as well.  Kathryn and Andrea are terrific and a real asset to the community!

Do you know of any libraries with a pet?  Please leave a comment and let me know!
